Gate valves are multi-turn isolation valves designed for fully open or closed service. A threaded stem operates the valve, pressing the gate against two seats to block fluid flow. Seats are usually metal with hard facing (e.g., stellite CoCrW or SS overlay) for extended durability, but soft seats are available for specific applications like water. These valves require less installation space than other shut-off valves and their gradual operation helps prevent water hammer. Gate valves are versatile, suitable for various fluids including water, oil, steam, gas, and slurry.
